There isn’t a toxin in the body as harmful as cortisol. When the levels get too high, everything from your mental to physical health can take a hit. In short, you’re stressed and you need to relieve the pressure.
Plenty of options exist, and they all seem as healthy as the next. The truth is that ridding the body of pent-up aggression isn’t as straightforward as it sounds. Not only do you have to choose correctly but it’s also important not to get too attached.
Yes, stress is a double-edged sword. Here are the risks and how to avoid them in the future.
Physical Safety
It’s hard not to boost your mood and self-esteem without exercise. When we workout, the brain release endorphins in the body and these are happy hormones. So, exercising is essential but it can be risky too. Not many people realize it, yet there are thousands of pedestrian-involved accidents on a yearly basis. Also, there are numerous counts of rambles getting lost and needing rescuing. And, that’s without mentioning the dangers of the gym or playing a sport. Never do anything which will put your health at risk as your stress levels will only increase. Be safe, people.
Overeating
Another way people deal with stress is to eat. There is a “forget it” attitude where fatigue means you can’t be bothered to be healthy. Maybe one cheat day is fine but four or five are glutinous and you’ll soon start to put on fat. Oh, and a bad routine is harder to quit than a good one. Let’s face it – no one has even been tempted to stray by a piece of broccoli. Always watch your appetite when you’re tired and resist the urge to eat for the sake of it. If you have to, reach for the fruit rather than the chocolate. Or, eat healthier versions, such as cocoa-rich choc.
Obsession
Even when an obsession is healthy, it’s still not healthy per say. At the end of the day, it’s an addiction and all addictions take their toll. The gym is a perfect example. You started going to pump iron and now you can’t stop. The problem is it’s starting to take over your life. Rather than spend time with friends and family, you need to get on a treadmill and burn energy. In the meantime, your “loved ones” wonder why you’re distant. A balance between stress relief and life is crucial to maintaining your relationships.
Effectiveness
Everyone is different, and stress relief tactics work might not work in the same way for you as another person. The problem is that you don’t realize this because you think it’s all going to plan. The result is a spectacular and inevitable meltdown as the stress boils over and explodes. You need to find a method which works for you, whether it’s exercise or a full-body massage. Even talking might help you vent and keep an even keel.
