Even though I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow this morning, I’m spending as much time as possible thinking about spring and everything that comes with it. And because the stores are starting to stock their shelves with Easter and other seasonal merchandise, focusing on spring isn’t all that difficult to do. Some people may think it’s too early to be hauling out that stuff, but I’m taking every opportunity I can to soak up all of the beautiful, pastel palettes, and fresh, springtime inspiration!
Not only is today’s project is a tip-of-the-hat to the spring season, it’s also an ode to one of my favourite birds: the swan. Using basic materials, I was able to whip up a whimsical wreath that would serve as the perfect finishing-touch for any future, spring-inspired decor plans.
If you’re looking forward to winter coming to an end as much as I am, this idea should go straight to the top of your list of must-do DIYs!
Materials
- Wreath form
- White feathers
- Swan decoration
- Ribbon
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
This project isn’t comprised of a bunch of complicated steps. It’s definitely something you can accomplish in an afternoon, and it also doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to pull off. I don’t know about you, but a DIY that’s easy and inexpensive without sacrificing quality results is a winner in my books!
Apply a thin bead of glue to the base of your first feather and lay it on top of the wreath form. To avoid burning your fingers, use a popsicle stick or an old pen to push and hold it in place until the glue sets.
To get the ball rolling, all you need to do is fire up your hot glue gun and make sure you have a lot of extra glue sticks ready to go.
Continue to add more feathers, and as you do, make sure they’re all bending the same direction around the wreath form.
Once it’s completely covered, use more feathers to fill in the inner and outer edges of the wreath. Doing so will help create a fluffier, fuller look.
Next, cover the bottom of your swan figurine with hot glue or E6000, and place it in the middle of the feathery wreath.
When the glue has dried and you’re happy with the way everything looks, cut a long piece of ribbon and use it to hang your beautiful, new, spring-inspired creation.
That’s it! Pretty simple, right? If you want, you can also add some seasonal flowers or other decorative elements to the mix, which would really amp up the springtime vibe you’re trying to achieve.
