DIY Potted Grass Arrangement from Dollar Tree

I am always looking for ways to take cheap dollar store stuff and make it look high end. My local Dollar Tree is always filled to the brim with cheap plastic pots and the other day I scooped one up along with some onion grass, brought it home and decided to give it a little touch of class.

I am so excited to share this project with you so we are just going to jump right in! Let me show you what I did.

Materials:

Plastic Dollar Tree Pot
6 sprigs on Onion Grass
2 bags of black rocks
Dry Floral Foam
Country Chic Paint – Vanilla Frosting
Country Chic Paint – Jitterbug
Country Chic Paint – Grey Wax
Country Chic Paint – Black Wax

Step 1:

Begin by painting the top portion of your floral pot with Country Chic Paint in Vanilla Frosting. I did a light coat of paint and allowed for some of the pot to show through. This will make sense when we apply the wax later.

Step 2:

Using the Jitterbug, paint the lower third portion of the pot. I did two full coats to make sure I had great coverage, allowing proper drying time in between.

Step 3:

Once the paint on my pot had fully dried, I applied Grey Wax in spaced out areas over the pot. I dabbed the wax on rather than rubbed to create a “messy” old look.

I then went over the grey wax with a touch of black wax to add some dimension.

Step 4:

Cut the dry floral foam to fit into the bottom of the pot.

Step 5:

Place the 6 sprigs of onion grass in the middle of the dry foam and then using some rope or twine, gather all the sprigs and tie the rope around them to keep them gathered and sticking straight up.

Step 6:

Fill the pot, with the black river rocks.

Step 7:

Trim the tops of the onion grass straight across if you like a clean, even look. This step is optional.

That’s it! How’s that for a quick and easy Dollar Tree makeover!?
