Well hello there! Boy, do I have a treat for you guys today!
Don’t I always, though?
I wanted to share this quick and easy picture frame makeover with you all and you can do this on any size of picture frame. So let’s can the chit-chat and get right into this fun DIY and upcycle.
So I have had this picture frame since the beginning of time. OK, that might be a slight exaggeration but I am not kidding, I am going to say I have had it for a least 12 years.
This frame has followed me around to all the places that I have lived and it’s just a cheap frame that I bought from Wal-Mart when I was 18 and me and my sister moved out of our family home and got an apartment together.
I thought it was time to shake things up a bit. Time to make this frame look a little more high end and less Wal-Mart looking.
To start, I thought it would be a good idea to paint the frame. I have been just dying to spray paint something with this.
Gold Metallic Spray Paint from Rustoleum
I love this spray paint from Rustoleum. It’s high-quality, has great coverage and it is super affordable. Plus, it’s easily accessible. You can just run on down to Home Depot or Wal-Mart and get it.
I took the picture frame apart and just spray painted the frame.
The thing you want to always remember about spray painting is nice, light and even coats. It’s better to do multiple light coats than one big heavy coat with a ton of drips.
While the frame was drying, I wanted to do something different with the matte border.
I recently got my hand on some of this Unicorn SPiT that I have seen all over the web. I have been just dying to try it.
You have to see how cool this stuff is. You can use this stuff as a stain, a paint or a glaze. You can dilute it with water — I could go on and on. Seriously, the possibilities with this stuff are limitless.
So what I did was I used Blue Thunder and Midnight’s Blackness
I mixed them together in a dish, starting with equal parts. I only needed about 4 drops of each.
When it was all mixed, this is what it looked like
Looks black, right? Well, that’s what I thought, so I added a few more drops of the Blue Thunder.
Mixed again and this is what I got.
I don’t know if you can really tell in the picture, but I was going for a deep navy blue color. It was still looking a little too black, but I thought, I would try and paint it on the matte border anyway and see what would happen.
Ok, I don’t even think I can convey through text, my excitement when I painted this stuff on.
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!
I was getting this beautiful blue, pulling through the black! So cool, right?
I painted the whole thing and what I was left with was this really cool dimensional look. I was originally going to paint the matte border just a flat navy blue, but I am so glad I went with Unicorn SPiT.
This frame is totally unique now!
What do you guys think??
I really love how this frame now fits perfectly with my style!
I wanted something that would also compliment my piano that is in this room as well.
You can check the post about my piano out here
I think that I might switch out the pictures in here eventually, too. These ones are pretty old now.
Now, I feel like I have been doing a lot of Wal-Mart bashing in this post. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Wal-Mart. It’s just that I had bought that frame a long time ago and I felt like it needed to be changed up a bit.
To prove that I am not totally against Wal-Mart, take a look at the gorgeous end table I got from there.
This piece only cost me $64! That’s not bad for an end table. Wal-Mart has seriously stepped up their home decor game!
