Bamboo Desk Organizer Makeover

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope that everyone’s 2020 is off to a great start. I took a little hiatus from my site and social media over the Christmas break just to unwind and regroup. It’s nice to take a break every once and a while, isn’t it?

But it’s a new year and I am ready to get back at it and what better way to start off a new year than by making over a desk organizer. I needed something fresh and new to keep my desk in check and this bamboo organizer did just the trick.

This organizer would do perfectly for the top of my desk, however, although the bamboo look is nice, I felt that it could use just a bit more pizazz. That is why I am so happy to have teamed up with DecoArt to give this organizer a new, shiny and trendy look with the help of some Americana Multi-Surface Metallic in Rose Gold.

Let’s dive right in and I will show you what I did.

Before I used the Rose Gold Americana Multi-Surface Metallic, I wanted to have a nice pop of white showing through under the stencil.

I removed all the drawers from the organizer and painted just the drawer fronts with Americana Acrylic Paint in the shade Snow (Titanium) White.

I did two coats of the white Americana Acrylic paint. This is what it looked like with one coat.

Once the white paint had fully dried, I used the Americana Stencil 12×12 – Split Angles and stenciled on the Rose Gold Americana Multi-Surface Metallic.

I positioned the stencil where I wanted it and then used a dabber. On the smaller drawers, I used the left side of the stencil — the more open chevron style.

On the larger drawer, I used the right side of the stencil. Since this drawer was longer, I did secure it with a piece of painter’s tape.

I am so in love with how these drawers turned out. When I put them back into the organizer, I wasn’t happy with the contrast between the drawers and the bamboo.

I decided to add a touch of white to the organizer, by painting the whole organizer with Vintage Effect Wash in White.

I painted it on and since the bamboo is a more shiny finish, I let it sit for a bit before wiping it away.

I wiped away the top but I did want it to be more white, so I applied another layer.

I finished up the side edges and front with Vintage Effect Wash.

I am so beyond happy with how this organizer turned out. It’s so pretty and has just the right amount of shine.

The drawers on this organizer are nice and deep and I can stow away all the things on my desk that I need, but don’t want to be seen.

There is honestly just something else about pretty organization. If you need to jazz up something for your desk this year, or anything in your home really — try out some Americana Multi-Surface Metallic in Rose Gold.

The shine is perfect and the vibrancy is so stunning. Let me know what you think about this project!
